STEVENAGE, U.K. & CASTRES, France—A new collaboration is underway between Plasticell and Pierre Fabre for the discovery of plant-based products that can enhance the metabolic function of brown adipose tissue (BAT), also known as brown fat. Plasticell will screen Pierre Fabre’s Nature Open Library collection to identify natural products that can increase metabolic activity and other functions of BAT. Plasticell scientists may also work with botanists, phyto-chemists and regulatory specialists from Pierre Fabre in the further development of products. Initially, this deal will focus on screening extracts derived from the edible parts of plants to develop functional foods or nutraceuticals.

“This first collaboration with Nature Open Library in the U.K. demonstrates that our open innovation initiative can really promote new uses of plant extracts in many areas or domains, worldwide. We are confident and will do our best with Plasticell’s team to succeed in this project,” said Laurent Audoly, director of R&D at Pierre Fabre.
