A new approach for stem cell expansion
January 2017
SHARING OPTIONS:

STEVENAGE, U.K.—Plasticell recently published research in Stem Cells and Development detailing how its platform technology can aid in the discovery of novel cell culture protocols to expand specific populations of therapeutic stem cells present in cord blood. In the publication, it is described how Plasticell’s CombiCult technology—which the company describes as “a revolutionary bead-based combinatorial screening technology”—can be applied to speed the discovery of media formulations and cell culture protocols for in-vitro expansion of hematopoietic stem cells without compromising them.

“Our results demonstrate that in addition to particular combinations of growth factors, it is also the order in which they are added to the cell culture that has an effect on the expansion of HSCs. Therefore systematic searches of temporal and combinatorial variables can be used to derive optimal protocols for cell expansion,” said Dr. Yen Choo, executive chairman of Plasticell.
