Two-year compounding certification now offered by Joint Commission

OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill.—The Joint Commission, which focuses on improving healthcare by evaluating and accrediting related organizations, has announced the development of a new Medication Compounding Certification program to help companies comply with enhanced regulations. The certification is open to any compounding pharmacies that operate or ship to states with regulations that demand compliance with United States Pharmacopeial Convention (USP) General Chapters 797 and/or 795. A compounding pharmacy is any physical pharmacy licensed to “compound” chemical ingredients into the final drug product. The certification program is awarded for a period of two years, and was collaboratively developed by the Joint Commission and the USP, which creates and distributes quality standards for medicines and other articles.
