An answer to muscle fatigue
October 2019
SHARING OPTIONS:

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.—Cytokinetics Inc. reported on data in the third quarter regarding its fast skeletal muscle troponin activator (FSTA) CK-2066260, which was found to decrease skeletal muscle fatigue by increasing metabolic efficiency in muscle contraction. CK-2066260 binds directly to fast skeletal muscle troponin, increases myofibrillar calcium sensitivity and amplifies the force response to submaximal nerve stimulation. FSTAs can reduce the amount of calcium needed to produce a given muscle force, and as such, CK-2066260 could delay muscle fatigue by reducing the energy needed for muscle activation and therefore enabling muscle contraction for longer. In-vitro, in-situ and in-vivo experiments showed that CK-2066260 boosted muscle calcium sensitivity and, in conjunction, muscle force response to subtetanic electrical stimulation; improved force response under fatiguing conditions; and improved exercise capacity in rats, among other results.
