BEIJINGóBayer Schering Pharma, a division of Bayer Healthcare, announced Feb. 12 that it will spend about $129 million over the next five years to build a research and development center here. Kemal Malik, a Bayer Schering Pharma board member, said in a statement that the new center aims to increase the inclusion of Asian patients in the early stages of drug development. China is the third largest market worldwide for the Bayer group.

"Our goal is to build a world class organization here in Beijing that will lead drug development not only for China but also for other Asian countries," Malik stated.
