Sanford-Burnham announces first five collaborators
June 2013
SHARING OPTIONS:

ORLANDO, Fla.—Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute at Lake Nona has selected the first five research groups with which it will collaborate to advance drug discoveries. The selected teams—which come from the University of Central Florida, University of Florida, University of Miami, Scripps Florida and Sanford-Burnham—will be part of the Florida Translational Research Program. The first collaboration began in February, and according to Layton Smith, director of Drug Discovery Florida at Sanford-Burnham, all projects should be complete by the end of the year. Three projects will focus on new treatments for cancer, while the other two will be geared toward new medicines for diabetes and obesity. This initiative was established by the Florida Department of Health and Sanford- Burnham as a competitive grant program to fund collaborative projects and advance research discoveries.
