Base4, Hitachi High-Tech to develop DNA sequencing system
August 2013
SHARING OPTIONS:

CAMBRIDGE, United Kingdom—Privately owned Base4 Innovation Ltd. and Hitachi High-Technologies Corp. have initiated a collaborative agreement for the development of a long read-length, single- molecule, nanopore-based DNA sequencing system, to be based on Base4 technology and Hitachi High-Tech instrumentation. The system will be able to directly read DNA modifications such as methylation, allowing for easy analysis of genetic material.

"For this nanopore sequencing system, Hitachi High-Tech is our preferred manufacturing partner. Development of this technology is expected to take place over three years … Hitachi High-Tech is a highly experienced manufacturer of clinical and research systems for the life sciences and is a perfect long-term strategic partner for Base4. We are very excited by what the next few years might bring," said Cameron Frayling, Base4's founder and CEO.
