U.K. organizations launch dementia consortium
January 2014
SHARING OPTIONS:

CAMBRIDGE, United Kingdom—Alzheimer’s Research UK, MRC Technology, Eisai and Eli Lilly and Co. have joined forces in a new £3 million (approximately $4.9 million) consortium to accelerate the development of new treatments for dementia. The Dementia Consortium will provide funding, resources and expertise to increase and advance new drug targets from the academic sector. Eisai and Lilly will have the first access to any promising targets that result, and will be able to determine collaboration terms with the academic partner in question.

“We are delighted that our Centre for Therapeutics Discovery will be able to use its proven drug discovery capabilities to validate promising dementia targets,” said Prof. Justin Bryans, director of Drug Discovery at MRC Technology. “This new consortium model leads the way by bringing together the very best charity, industry and academic expertise in pre-competitive collaboration to accelerate much-needed treatments towards patients. We hope to develop further consortia based on this model for other areas of unmet medical need.”
