Link Technologies licenses ultra-sensitive diagnostic probes
January 2010
SHARING OPTIONS:

LANARKSHIRE, Scotland—Link Technologies, a manufacturer of reagents for oligonucleotide synthesis and modification (DNA, RNA, PNA and UNA), announced in December that it has licensed the University of Manchester's exciplex technology. Under the terms of the license, Link will manufacture and sell exciplex-based diagnostic reagents worldwide. According to the university, exciplex technology offers ultra-biospecificity and increases detection sensitivity over conventional systems due to negligible background signal. Researchers from the university developed new exciplex diagnostic probes based on labeling oligonucleotides with exciplex partners that form excited-state complexes in close spatial proximity. The university says that application of these modified oligonucleotides in diagnostic systems has been shown to discriminate DNA mutations at the level of PCR products and plasmid DNA.
