GVK Biosciences in multi-year collaboration deal with Moulder Center

HYDERABAD, India—GVK Biosciences (GVK BIO) recently announced a drug discovery alliance with the Moulder Center for Drug Discovery Research at Temple University. Within the multi-year alliance, GVK BIO will handle target validation, lead identification and lead optimization of small molecules in select therapeutic areas, including central nervous system, cardiovascular and metabolic disorders. Its duties will also include reagent generation, assay development and the establishment of the screening cascade leading to lead identification and optimization. The companies will share responsibility for the design of the program's molecules. Financial details were not disclosed.  
 
"This business model reflects the increasing trend of collaborations between academic centers of excellence and pharmaceutical companies to discover new drugs," Dr. Magid Abou-Gharbia, director of the Moulder Center and associate dean of research in Temple's School of Pharmacy, said in a press release.
