Thermo Fisher Scientific, Expression Pathology in deal to identify cancer-related proteins
February 2010
SHARING OPTIONS:

SAN JOSE, Calif.Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc.'s Biomarker Research Initiatives in Mass Spectrometry (BRIMS) Center announced in January a deal with Expression Pathology Inc., a Rockville, Md.-based provider of tissue proteomic analysis, to improve identification of cancer-related proteins. The collaboration will apply Thermo Fisher 's expertise in quantitative protein analysis using mass spectrometry and Expression Pathology's patented Director laser microdissection and Liquid Tissue sample processing technologies to accurately measure cancer-related proteins in formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue. The goal of the collaboration is to develop an alternative workflow that is not dependent on specific antibodies and is more sensitive and provides high-quality, quantitative information about a much wider range of specific proteins that are suspected of being markers for cancer. Financial details were not released.
