March 2012
SHARING OPTIONS:

TORONTO—McMaster University will be building a new stem cell research facility, the Boris Family Centre in Human Stem Cell Therapies, thanks to a $30 million donation from the Marta and Owen Boris Foundation. Of the total donation, $24 million will be used to build the Boris Family Centre, which will accelerate the commercial development of discoveries made at McMaster University's Stem Cell and Cancer Research Institute. The remaining $6 million will be put toward a clinic at which patients can see several specialists and have necessary tests completed at one location in one visit.

"It made perfect sense to make this investment in this world-class university," said trustee Les Boris in a statement. "McMaster University has proven its ability to fast- forward discoveries from the lab bench to the patients' bedside."
